Saint Andrews New Brunswick has become increasingly popular among world travelers seeking alternative destinations. The 1783 historic port town of St. Andrews offers shops, galleries, and period homes along the waterfront. Local attractions and wellness activities include world-class golf, award winning gardens, whale watching, biking, sea kayaking, Ministers Island and the nearby Campobello Island Summer Estate of Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt.
Our Inn is situated in the town of St. Andrews, but enjoys being a world apart abutting the unparalleled beauty of Kingsbrae Garden, a 27-acre horticultural garden. Andrew Harper has tapped us as one of the top 100 hideaways in the world. A vast array of local dining options is just steps away. Everything in the historic resort town of Saint Andrews is within walking distance. We suggest meandering through town and our own private garden to get the full experience of a property in a sophisticated playground by the sea. Welcome to Kingsbrae Arms. It was our dream to create a property that would provide the experience of staying among friends in a private home. Our purchase of this venerable turn-of-the-century house in 1996 was something of a rescue effort. The building had been abandoned, and sorely neglected for nearly ten years before we came along and were captivated by its charm. Now after extensive restorations, this family home is once again receiving and entertaining guests. Our goal is to provide the ultimate country house experience.
At the turn of the century, St. Andrews had become something of a spa. Because of its location on a peninsula surrounded by trade winds and the sea, it offered relief from hay fever. William Van Horn himself, the man responsible for connecting the Canadian coasts via rail, built a spur from the main line to St. Andrews. There he built himself a palatial home where he spent some of the happiest years of his life. Soon wealthy families were booking parlour cars transporting whole households to St. Andrews for the summer months. Back then, locals would gather at the train station to watch the “swells” get off.
We are proud and pleased to be the trustees of this lovely property. During renovations, we took pains to preserve the historic charms of this house, and at the same time update its comforts to twenty-first century tastes without intruding. We invite our guests to enjoy this house as if it were their own home…and hope they find that same spirit here which so many have enjoyed for so many years. We invite you to book with us now.
Welcome to another, less hurried, era
